First Blog Entry

After thinking about this for several months........I decided to create a blog so that my family and friends can stay updated on the weekly adventures of Gracie and Tommy. I'm hoping that I will update this site at least weekly.

I'm sure that you all know that Thomas Edward arrived on Feb. 1st at 6:41a.m. via C-section. He weighed in at 9lbs. 5oz at 21 1/2 inches long. He is absolutely beautiful. His big sister Gracie is totally in love with him. This birth was completely different then my first. My water broke at school around 8:00a.m. (thankfully there weren't any students in my classroom). At the hospital, we found out that Gracie was breeched so it was decided that she was going to born via C-section. She was born at 1:25 p.m. and weighed 6lbs. 9oz. at 19 inches long. We had Gracie with us in the hospital room for the first 16 hours. At 6:00 in the morning the nurse came in and realized that Gracie was blue, so she immediately took her to the nurshery. She was later taken to the special care nurshery where she stayed for 12 days. She had fluid in her lungs and she also had trouble with her breathing and heart rate. We were finally able to take her home with an apnea monitor. This monitor would go off anytime her heart rate would drop. It was very scary. For the first month she was home, we never left the family room and camped out there for several weeks. Thankfully, Gracie never had a real espisode and we were able to get rid of the monior after having it attached to her for two months. At that time, life finally returned to "normal" for us.

Tommy was brought home from the hospital after only 3 days. He took to breastfeeding like a champ. When he came home from the hospital he weighed only 8lbs. 10 oz. He now weighs at 10lbs. 2oz. and he has only been home for 20 days. I'll post his birth story later.
